Mr Tony Aymat
ENT Consultant with a special interest in otology and
voice problems
Mr Aymat was appointed Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon
at University Hospital Lewisham in 2009. He graduated from the
University of Barcelona in 1990 and did his specialist training in
the South West and London.
He undertakes the full range of ear, nose and throat conditions
but has a special interest in ear and hearing problems in adults
and children, especially chronic ear disease and revision surgery.
Mr Aymat also deals with all types of voice disorders in
professional and non-professional voice users. He leads the
multidisciplinary voice clinic.
He is involved in under and post graduate medical training as
well as teaching of nurses and paramedical groups.
Mr David Bowdler
ENT Consultant, with a special interest in
otology
Mr Bowdler qualified from Westminster Medical School in 1976. He
carried out a general surgical and then ENT surgical training
programme until appointed to University Hospital Lewisham in 1989.
Since that time he has worked at University Hospital Lewisham as
well as at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich and Queen Mary's
Hospital, Sidcup.
For the past nine years he has been Clinical Director of ENT,
ensuring that the services provided have been as responsive as
possible to the needs of the community and the changing healthcare
environment.
Mr Bowdler has developed a special clinical interest in otology,
both for children and adults, and has coordinated the
implementation of special tinnitus and vertigo (vestibular testing
and rehabilitation) clinics. He has also introduced bone anchored
hearing aids to the service.
In addition, Mr Bowdler has contributed to the development of
otological surgery on both the national and international stage,
particularly in the innovation of new technology including
oto-endoscopes, laser and facial nerve monitoring. He continues to
be active in research and is also involved in teaching postgraduate
courses. He organises the Wexham Advanced Middle Ear Course of
which he is a co-founder and teaches at the world famous Jean
Causse clinic in Bezier, France on the annual international course.
He attends and presents at many national and international meetings
particularly on various topics within otology.
Mr Alwyn D’Souza
ENT Consultant with a special interest in facial
plastics and head and neck surgery
Mr D’Souza was appointed to the University Hospital Lewisham
in .He has a particular interest in Plastic, Reconstructive
and Cosmetic Surgery of the Face, Head and Neck and runs a Combined
Dermatology/Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic. This clinic specialises
in treating skin cancer of the face, head and neck.
He trained in Dublin and Birmingham and obtained further super-
specialist training in facial plastic and cosmetic surgery in
Europe and North America. He is actively involved in training and
teaching postgraduate doctors, GPs and is a faculty member on
Facial Plastic Surgery Training Courses.
Mr Tony Jacob
ENT Consultant with special interest in thyroid and
salivary gland surgery
Mr Jacob graduated in 1991 and became a fellow of the Royal
College of Surgeons of England in 1997. He underwent higher
surgical training in the south east of England and was appointed to
the University Hospital Lewisham in 2004.
Mr Jacob spent a year in advanced research into laryngeal cancer
culminating in a Masters degree and gained further clinical in
North America. He is involved in teaching and training junior
doctors.
In addition to treating general ENT conditions, he has a special
interest in paediatric ENT. He also has special expertise in
thyroid disorders, salivary gland disease and the diagnosis and
management of head and neck cancers. He is the lead thyroid surgeon
for Lewisham Hospital.
Mrs Anastasia Rachmanidou
ENT Consultant with special interest in rhinology and
paediatric ENT
Mrs Rachmanidou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, where she
studied Medicine. Following general surgical training she
further specialised in Otorhinolaryngology. She then moved to
Edinburgh where she completed higher surgical training in
Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.
In 1999, she completed her studies for the Diploma in Forensic
Medicine from the University of Edinburgh. She was a Research
Registrar in Rhinology with the Academic Department of Respiratory
Medicine, St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. She was
appointed Consultant ENT Surgeon at University Hospital Lewisham in
2000.
Anastasia Rachmanidou is a lead mentor for Coblation
(radio-frequency) dissection in the UK, she has acquired
qualifications in Management and Teaching, has a great interest in
Medical Education and has recently been awarded ad eundem
fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Mr. Nabil Salama
ENT Consultant with special interest in
rhinology
Mr Salama was appointed at University Hospital Lewisham in 1983
and is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at United Medical and
Dental School of Guys, Kings and St. Thomas'.
Mr. Salama became interested in endoscopic sinus surgery in 1989
and has attended various courses and conferences in the UK and
abroad. He has also set up his own endoscopic sinus surgery course
at University Hospital Lewisham.
He also has special interest in the management of snoring. He is
a member of the British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists and
Head & Neck Surgeons and the European Rhinological Society. He
is also currently the Director of Service for General Surgery,
Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, ITU, Theatres and ENT.
Mr. Nicholas Gibbins
ENT Consultant with special interest in salivary
gland and thyroid disease, and head and neck
cancers
Nick Gibbins is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at University Hospital
Lewisham, a Head and Neck, Paediatric and Voice surgeon as co-lead
of the Lewisham Voice Disorders Unit with My Tony Aymat. He
specialises in salivary gland and thyroid disease, and head and
neck cancers. In addition, he deals with all types of paediatric
ENT conditions and has a specialist interest in the area of voice
disorders (laryngology) and surgery.
He lectures on numerous courses and is a member of many
professional societies. He is a strong proponent of teaching and is
the national e-learning lead for laryngology. He has also published
extensively including medical journal articles, invited articles
and text book chapters. He has performed original research and was
awarded the Gold Medal at the ENT Masterclass for best research
presentation in 2011.
Outside of medicine his interests include endurance events
including marathons, ultramarathons and multi-discipline races.
