Childhood Immunisation
The Childhood Immunisation Team provides coordination
and support to ensure the delivery of an effective immunisation
programme, other than that which occurs in front line immunisation
centres.
What does the team do?
Responsible for the
collection of data on immunisation uptake, reporting to DH, HPA,
NHS London and local commissioners
- Identification of areas of low uptake and the design of
interventions to address these (in collaboration with Public
Health)
- Management of the neonatal hepatitis B and BCG vaccination
programmes
- Provision of a three borough (LSL) helpline giving expert
clinical advice service to healthcare professionals
- Management of training for all staff required to undertake
immunisation (foundation, refresher, update and targeted)
- Health Promotion - Information and promotion of immunisation
awareness and of childhood immunisation services to the population
of Lewisham using mass media advertising and any appropriate
publicity mechanisms
- Run by the Consultant Community Paediatrician and the
Immunisation Coordinator, an Immunisation advisory clinic addresses
issues of medical history that might contra-indicate childhood
immunisations or issues of parental concern that cannot be dealt
with by other means. Referrals into the ad-hoc clinic are made by
doctors or nurses in general practice or community services
